Project Information
BBDO Atlanta first came to us with a basic idea to bring to life some of Home Depot‘s tools using stop motion for their holiday campaign. The agency gave us a lot of freedom to create a treatment that was playful and energetic. We wanted to do more than just animate tools spinning around the frame, as has been done in the past. We ran with the idea of integrating the supers into the animation. Each tool had a purpose and job to fulfill in carving out each bit of copy. We wanted to showcase what the tools were and how they worked, by having them cut, grind, and inflate the words on screen. All while creating thumb stopping content.
The original ask was to create a quick 15-20 second video incorporating all the tools. When we presented our treatments, the client agreed these needed to be longer and gave us the freedom to create the animation it deserved and split the content into two individual videos.
We wanted to create interesting videos that would be authentic to a DIYer. The cutting of the backgrounds was something we wanted to do in camera and really showcase the sawdust that came with cutting through wood. The main problem was having the supers look like they were painted on the background still. This is where our post production team really shined and composited the supers into each scene to make them feel organic.
The videos were shot in our studio over two days with our director and animator.
The videos were used in tandem with their full omni-channel holiday campaign on social and web. The brand saw such great results from the videos that they came back before the holidays were even done to book their spring project.
